Waterfront Compact – Historic Warehouse District – HafenCity

Step back in time to the early days of commercial shipping by a two and a half hour walking tour in Hamburgs Historic Warehouse District. This historic part of the harbor is in great condition and invites you to enjoy an inside view into one of Germany’s most popular conservation areas. Ancient times meet modern architecture, when we cross the line between the brand new site of „HafenCity“ and the historic building Stock. We guide you through a generic fast growing district with prize winning new building structures. We show you around a remarkable district, where old structures grow into a brand new area, designed on a drawing table.

We start the tour with a great view over the harbor area and plenty of yarned stories about historic sailing and cargo boats like the “Rickmer Rickmers and the “Cap San Diego”.

The old free trade area invites us with the smell of freshly roasted coffee and the screams from the event museum “Hamburg Dungeon”, a walk-through ghost ride.
Let us invite you to the ancient boiler house, which served the whole district with energy in the early 1900’s and nowadays displays a model of the district and the planned houses and buildings.

After our visit to the boiler house we proceed to the HafenCity and the historic harbor with its historic steam and sail boats.

We have a peek at the new philharmonic hall “Elbphilharmonie” that is still under construction and then proceed down the fine boulevards of the HafenCity to the new shopping area.

Maybe you want to hear about the legendary pirates/buccaneers? We tell you a story of medieval piracy on the North Sea.

Architecture, plenty of innovations will be on our way when we take a walk to the water side. Perhaps we can even catch a glimpse of a beautiful cruise boat anchoring right by the viewpoint were our tour ends?!

Enjoy a great impression of Hamburg, don´t miss this beautiful place right on the waterside and enjoy a fun, informative and, interesting afternoon with us.

The tour takes 2,5 hrs.

Meeting point is at the Underground train station Baumwall (U3), exit Kehrwiederspitze / HafenCity, underneath the rails in front of the bakery booth “Back Shop”.

Every Saturday at 12.30 p.m.
